2nd Time Running…
Driving what is arguably for many the coolest drag car in all of Canada, Alberta’s Cal Tebb has successfully defended his RMNFC Championship title…
Tebb wheeled his meticulous GTO which features self built alcohol burning and supercharged engine (using Atchison Machine components) to victory for the highly popular 6.90-indexed Rocky Mountain Nostalgia Funny Car series. The title was Tebb’s second in a row driving a car which be has been campaigning since 2008.
Cal’s winning season was one of great consistency including multiple event wins, including three at Edmonton’s Castrol Raceway and one at Drayton Valley AB.
“My season was amazing — my best year ever in drag racing,” said Tebb. “Of the five points races – we won four of them. The season highlight was probably winning the Big Bucks FC race at Edmonton in September. We had some poor track conditions when we tried to race at Prince George (in June) so the NHRA “Wally” was saved for the Edmonton event. So that was unique – winning an NHRA Wally at an IHRA track in addition to the cash!”
“My cars have always run really well – but it was always the driver that was the weak link,” he added. “This year I worked really hard on becoming a better driver and it has really paid off. Thanks to my team of Matt Barnes, Rachel Lewis Barnes, and Trevor Steinkey. Also I would like to thank my wife Anne, even though she is not racing with us as much as she used to, she still supports my passion.”
Tebb was also very pleased with the racing groups’s overall progress – 2013 marked it’s 5th year of official existence.
“Our group continues to be very popular,” he affirmed. “I think we have found sweet spot where the cars are running 6.90 at over 200 mph but require very little maintenance. Most of the guys run their cars all year without any major repairs. We are often asked what it takes to get involved with our group, in fact we already have several new teams wanting to join us for next year.”
Following his RMNFC title, Tebb finished off his 2013 racing season part of an impressive group of Alberta raced drivers that travelled down to the NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion event at Bakersfield two weeks ago. Five circuit regulars made that trek also including Joey Steckler, Jimmy Fersch, Shane Reykdal, Norm Kolwich – who all raced within the massive 38-car 7.0 Pro class.
Tebb qualified for the 7.0 “B” field and had the best finish overall for the Canadian racers with a semi-final placing.
