SIR’s recent 50th Anniversary Celebration event was truly highlight filled which did include a very special moment for Canadian drag racing…..

During the Saturday evening concluding rounds for the event’s feature car program – there was a first time pairing between the father and daughter Funny Cars raced by Jay and Courtney Mageau which matched up Jay’s nitro burning “Prospector” Corvette versus Courtney’s alcohol burning “Girl Trouble” Thunderbird.

We are quite confident that was the very first time for a interfamily father and daughter FC race ever seen in Canadian drag racing history.

“Our family has been visiting this track in the Prairies since 1967,” revealed Jay Mageau – from Edmonton. “Now over the years all three generations of our Mageau Family racing have made runs down this historic track. We were thrilled to be invited to the special event and brought both my daughter Courtney’s alcohol funny car and our my own nostalgia nitro funny car.  My dad Bob made the trip to Saskatoon to watch too.”mageau1

At the end of the night – the first father v.s. daughter funny car race in Canada occurred. The track prep was good and both cars left the line but Courtney’s car got out of the groove and she clicked it off at about 400 feet. Using a conservative tune-up – Jay did run his “Prospector” Corvette though to a 6.42 secs – which was a new track record.

“That was very special for our family and to do it at Saskatchewan International Raceway’s special 50th event — made it even more special,” Jay added.

Future plans for the team will likely include Courtney upgrading her licence so that she can drive the AA/FC at some point in the future.  The 3rd generation driver is currently 25 years old and has been racing since age 12 – a graduate from both Junior Dragster and Super Pro dragster class racing.

During 2015 – the Mageau Family also celebrated their 50th anniversary within the sport of drag racing.
