Canadian lady racer Melanie Salemi will return to her racing roots this coming weekend….
The Melanie Salemi Motorsports, Delta Faucets Backed, Pro Modified team will return to Melanie’s Home track in Grand Bend, Ontario Canada for the 14th Annual IHRA Mopar Canadian Nationals.
Currently Melanie ( who is originally from Orillia Ontario) is sitting in the #4 points position in the eighth mile PDRA Pro Boost class. She will take a short break from eighth mile racing to once again take on the full quarter mile. This will be Melanie’s first time competing in the ultra competitive Pro Modified class at her home track. After last year’s Mopar Canadian Nationals complete rainout she was unable to return for the rescheduled race due to prior commitments.
“I am really excited to be heading to Grand Bend this weekend, I have so many awesome memories of racing there while I was growing up and I know the track like the back of my hand.” Said Melanie. “I got a chance last year to race the quarter mile at the Shakedown at the Summit and recorded my personal best of 5.88 @ 239mph. I can’t wait to make full quarter mile laps again. There is just something about going 240mph that is super thrilling to me. It certainly gives you a lot more time to think about things and be acquainted with how the car is reacting to the track conditions.”.
Prior to arriving at the track, Melanie and her team will be on display at the MASCO plant in St. Thomas, Ontario for their employee appreciation BBQ. “Each year the day before this race, we take the car to display it at the employee appreciation BBQ, it is always a fun time firing up the car, explaining what we do and how we do it to the employees. Delta Faucets raffles off a couple of tickets for the race and the winners get to come to the track and get the whole experience, it really is a fun way to get the weekend started” stated Melanie.
If you are in the Grand Bend area this weekend, this race is definitely something you do not want to miss. Pro Qualifying begins on Friday night, goes through Saturday afternoon, with the first round of eliminations happening on Saturday Evening. Be sure to stop by the Melanie Salemi Motorsports pit and pick up a hero card. Be listening for announcements throughout the weekend as Melanie will be once again giving away T-shirts for the kids!
