Canadian Top Alcohol Dragster racers Shawn Cowie and Don St. Arnaud both made major early season statements during the NHRA Circle K Winternationals…..
Driving his Delta BC-based supercharged TAD – Shawn Cowie came very close to notching yet another NHRA national event title – with a runner-up finish to defending NHRA Lucas Oil World Champion Chris Demke. Cowie’s final round lap of 5.367 secs at 268.33 mph fell short of Demke’s 5.264 secs at 273.88 mph.
Shawn had qualified #7 (5.323 secs) and had taken the measure of Ashley Stanford, James Stevens and Ray Martin in earlier competition.
Don St. Arnaud literally rocked the drag racing world when he recorded the fastest speed ever seen in the TAD class – a stupendous 285.35 mph while winning in round one on Saturday evening!*
Arnaud’s injected nitro car was also the event’s low qualifier – running a 5.221 secs which was low ET of the meet. But he too was taken out of competition by Demke losing in round #2 of TAD class competition.
*DragRaceCanada will be posting a more in-depth feature on Don’s national record setting effort – coming soon to our Lucas Oil Hotzone subsection.
