An Alcohol Amendment
There is a “new kid on the block” within Canadian Top Alcohol Funny Car class racing…….
In recent times, 23-year old Tyler Scott has assumed the controls for one of Canada’s most famous machines – the Welland-based “Kardiac Kids” TAFC owned by wily veteran racer Larry Dobbs.
Scott, who is from Exeter Ontario, has been busy gaining experience in the familiar flamed Pontiac Firebird since first getting his license in June. He has already participated in NHRA racing at both the divisional and national event level (Norwalk) in the U.S. and as raced too at tracks in Canada – most recently at Grand Bend Motorplex just last weekend – in a match versus Paul Noakes.
“It has been a whirl wind of emotions since receiving my license,” Scott admitted. “I’m still in the learning process driving the car – it’s a constant challenge filled with new experience. I knew it before, but these are very tough cars to drive and the people that make it look easy – amaze me.”
But Tyler is being schooled by one of the best in the business. Team owner Larry Dobbs is for sure a terrific mentor for the up-and-coming racer.
“It’s has been a huge honour to drive for a legend like Larry and to learn from him and his team is a huge advantage,” Tyler continued. “He has seen it all. None of this would have been possible without his support and everyone involved in his team. Larry and Kevin Dobbs are giving me a great race car to learn in and the talented crew of George Monahan, Andy Kittle, Jory Elliott and Jaime Walters all keep it running smooth.”
Tyler was also quick to cite the continued and valued support of not only the team’s sponsors (Sportz By Napier, Jim Scott Enterprises, Huron Produce Limited) but also his family – who are 100% behind him.
Tyler Scott’s background in drag racing includes originally helping a Canadian T/D team back in 2005 followed by stints as a crew member for Doc Sipples’ TF dragster and part-time with the fuel Funny Cars of Bob Gilbertson and Jeff Diehl. In 2009 he attended Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School and drove a Super Comp dragster. His association with Larry Dobbs started as a crew member in 2012.
Tyler is driving a car that is also still in the hunt within the 4-race 2014 NDRA championship series in Canada. He hopes to contend for and potentially capture that title during the series’ upcoming and final race (this coming Labor Day weekend at Toronto Motorsports Park) which would be a rather significant accomplishment for sure to close out his rookie season.
