Arend on the Mend
A rather shocking side story during last weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals was an unexpected withdrawal from fuel FC competition by Canadian fan favourite Jeff Arend.
The skilled driver of the Jim Dunn Racing/Grime Boss Nitro Funny Car injured his foot in a non-racing related accident on Friday night. At first what was thought to be a sprain, turned out to be much more serious and a follow-up with a physician determined Jeff’s foot was broken in 3 places.
The development was very unfortunate too because Jeff had recorded a near season’s best ET at 4.109 secs to qualify solidly in the Lucas Oil Nationals event program.
“The foot is still pretty sore — but slowly getting better,” Jeff advised. “I’m going to physical therapy everyday and there should be no problem with being able to drive at Indy next week – although I probably won’t we walking around a lot. But what really sucked is being forced out of competition after I ran the 4.10 on Saturday with it broken – now that really hurts!”
