The car may look the same when it takes to the drag strip in Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts competition this year, but the underneath of the B&W Racing Patio Passport 1994 Dodge Daytona is entirely new.
“The car will look the same,” said owner/driver Mike Wagg, but there will be all the difference under the car.”
After a racing incident last year, Wagg and fellow owners Dave Bell and Paul Delicata decided to rebuild the chassis of the Top Sportsman entry, and Wagg added the car is just about complete.
“We just got the car back,” he said. “It’s now ready for powder-coating the chassis and then getting the body painted.”
Powered by a 605-cubic inch KB engine with a two-stage nitrous system from Magna Fuel Racing Fuel Systems, a Joe’s Transmission Powerglide sits behind on a totally-updated Lowdown Hot Rods chassis.
Wagg said he and Bell, of Grand Bend, Ontario, will share driving duties with the Daytona for 2011, adding the team plans to run the entire series, staring with the opener Victoria Day Weekend May 20-22 at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park.
“The Quick 32 Sportsman Series has really grown,” noted Wagg. “It keeps getting bigger and bigger.”
Wagg wanted to thank Paul Delicata and Patio Passport, who has been a big factor in providing support for the team. “Paul has helped us out a lot, he has been a big part of this team.”
Patio PassportWagg also wanted to tip his hat to Tom VanDerGeld and Tim Allinson of Lowdown Hot Rods, fellow competitor Kevin Wicke of K & K Racing & Performance in Stratford for helping with getting parts for the rebuilt car, and Kevin Zimmer from Bear’s Performance Products for the suspension upgrades. A thank you to Elaine Wagg and Janet Ferguson for their involvement was also conveyed by Wagg.
Both Wagg and Bell act as crew chiefs on the Daytona as well as drive. Along with Delicata, others on the team are Janet Ferguson, Bill Meehan, and Paul Connolly.
The team would like to thank their sponsors, Patio Passport, Auto Clinic of Flamborough, Pro Racing Fuels, Valvoline, NAPA (Waterdown Auto Parts), K&K Performance, and Creemore Springs Brewery for their loyal and faithful support.
