Can-Am St. Thomas Report

Eastern Canada’s very popular Can-Am Stock/SuperStock series continued to wind down it’s season with a “double header” event  St Thomas Raceway Park last weekend….

Saturday welcomed us with summer-like weather and 37 racecars ready to do battle.

After the dust settled, Rob Becker’s GT/DA Camaro emerged victorious over first time finalist, Steve Sack Jr in their GT Olds Cutlass.
Congratulations to both racers.
Geoblaster – members entry $100 – Vince Giglio
Rick Hill – members first round looser gas money $50 – Chuck Nagy

Saturday also saw our annual Can-Am Shootout race generously sponsored by Jim Wildgoose and Wildgoose Performance.
This year was aptly called the “bridesmaid race” giving all that haven’t won a Can-Am race the opportunity to add their name to the list.
The winner this year was Bob Richards (no stranger to the winners circle in other venues) driving the Crate motored Camaro of Ian Hill.
Runner-up was Dan Belemy driving his Dad’s Fairlane stocker.  A big “thank-you” to Jim Wildgoose for providing the purse for this race.

After some off and on rain during the night and early morning, the St Thomas staff went to work, the sun came out, and by noon you
wouldn’t have known it had rained and the track was in excellent condition.
35 cars were ready to race on the freshly prepped surface. In a very close final race, Brian Clayton’s GT/EA Camaro defeated Chuck Nagy’s GT/TA
GMC truck (red by .0001) Yes, I have the zeros correct!
Geoblaster – members entry $100 – Kevin Dundas
Rick Hill – members first round looser gas money – Allan Sawicki
Karbelt Speed and Custom Bounty Hunter $100 – Chuck Nagy

Some casual observations:

Congratulations to Anne-Marie and Tony Valerio welcoming baby Nicole to the world on Saturday.
…..and yes, Tony raced on Sunday!

Nice to see different faces going some rounds. A tribute to the competitiveness of our series racers.
The track prep was, as we have come to expect, in perfect shape for our types of racecars. Thanks to Jay, Michele,
and the whole St Thomas Raceway Park staff for all you do for us. We all look forward to coming and racing at your facility.
Special thanks to Mary Edmond and Kate Burkhart for their help in organizing and running the weekends races (trial by fire!)

Also, Mary took and has posted many pictures of the weekends action on Facebook. Check it out.
Also on Facebook are many pics by Dwayne Young, the Photo Guys, and others. Thanks to all.
Thanks to Kelly Cooper and John Rimnyak for their announcing skills and interest in our series Great job!!

Dan has posted the points to date, and if the weekend results didn’t show it, the points battle is really tight.
The last race will be a barn burner as well it should be. We wouldn’t have it any other way!! And there will be a clear winner thanks to the tie-breaker policy put in effect over the winter.

See you all at TMP , Saturday, Oct 4 for our final race (Race #12) of the 2014 season.
