Some solid Canadian performances and participation from the season opening NHRA Lucas Oil Winternationals!…

Shawn Cowie most certainly did steal the show at Pomona — recording the two quickest supercharged TAD runs ever (5.151 & 5.156 secs) while collecting his 14th career national event “Wally”.

Richmond BC’s Rick McKinney just missed joining Shawn Cowie in victory lane. Rick placed an outstanding runner-up in Super Stock with his SS/LA ’84 Oldsmobile

Calgary’s Mike Scott entered his new Weekend built Top Fuel Harley and had some wicked looking launches — but ultimately was a DNQ for that event feature.

Edmonton’s Kevin Boyer had a very nice event with the Team ACE Racing nitro Harley. Kevin qualified #5 (6.373 secs) but had a centerline violation in round one VS Ricky House.

Rick Pike entered his timeless ’56 Chevy SS/MA at Pomona and qualified that BC-based classic at .815 under the index.

Trevor and Kelly Ritchie (Sherwood Park) had a simply superb showing in Top Dragster. They qualified #14 (6.503 secs) and then ran very steady all the way up to a “final four” class placing!

Regina’s Grant Singer was both entertaining and quick in his SS/BS ’90 Camaro. He rode out a couple of cool wheelstands before romping to a 4th round finish in Super Stock!

Will Yakimetz tried his hand in Top Sportsman class racing with this ’69 Camaro. The Vegreville AB-based racer won two rounds of class competition.

Racing one of Canada’s coolest cars — Darcy Clarke (from Spruce Grove) ran his stunning AA/SA ’64 Fury in Stock eliminator.

Calgary’s Bob Gullett (who has won at Pomona before) was the quickest Canadian qualifier in Stock eliminator — running his F/S ’68 Nova to 1.022 = #5.

The Mercer Motorsports “Saturday Night Special” Datsun from Chestermere AB tried it’s hand in the Super Gas 9.90 class at Pomona.

Andy Beauchmin raced his “The Joker” TFH at Pomona and qualified solidly #7 — before having a red light foul in round one versus Tii Tharpe.
