Cownden Now Two-for-Two

For the second week in a row, Victoria B.C.’s Damian Cownden was in eastern Canada with his Top Fuel Nitro Harley-Davidson race team….
Last weekend he was at Toronto Motorsports Park, for the second leg of the 2012 Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing Association season.

Damian and the team came into the event fresh off taking the win in the Rendez-Vous Nationals in Quebec.  The event was condensed to a single day after rain washed out all the action on Friday.  The weather cleared up Saturday, with the exception of very strong winds.  The team qualified in the number one position, with an elapsed time of 4.57 seconds on the 1/8th mile track.

The number 1 and 2 qualifiers would face each other in the final round for the second week in a row, with Damian Cownden taking the victory over Kevin Boyer with an elapsed time of 4.61 seconds at 165mph (625.54kmh).   The result proved to the team the changes they have made in tuning the nitro-methane powered Harley-Davidson this year are a step in the right direction.

“This is our team’s first visit to Toronto Motorsports Park so the rain on Friday definitely set us back, but our team made the right decisions and put us in a position to win.  I would love to see our series come back, and continue to grow the field and the crowd” said Cownden about his first event in Toronto. “Starting the 2012 CMDRA season with two back-to-back wins really puts us in a position to try new things, and further our program, while still defending our championship” commented Cownden on his second victory of the season.

The CMDRA tour continues on to Edmonton Alberta for the third event of the season at Castrol Raceway Park June 9 and 10.  The team then travels back across North America to compete in the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol Tennessee the following weekend.
