CSCN Keeps on Ticking

In what has become a highly anticipated late summer tradition within the Eastern Canadian drag racing’s annual calendar, fast street car proponent and promoter Joe DaSilva presented his 2012 version of the Canadian Street Car Nationals last weekend at Cayuga….

While this year’s event might have been downsized somewhat when compared to some previous efforts – a great field of machines coagulated for annual bragging rites within this unique drag racing genre.

The event was highlighted by rather ferocious competition within the OSCA’s EZ  Street category which was won ultimately by Nick Agostino.   The Markham Ontario-based driver qualified #1 (7.551 secs) over 14 other entries and then took his Chevy Camaro to the overall title on Sunday night beating Tom Smith’s Trans-Am to the finish line stripe with a winning 7.859 secs run.

Nick Agostina was the event’s feature winner in the EZ Street class category

Agostino recorded low ET of the meet at 7.446 secs while winning a round one single and then hit back-to-back 7.553 and 7.569 secs laps while topping Montreal’s Steve Agiropolis and Newmarket’s George Tserbis in earlier competition.

Other eliminator winners during the 2012 Canadian Street Car Nationals were:

  • Wayne Mahoney – Pro Stock
  • Peter Nolan – 8.90
  • Tim Kennelly – 9.90*
  • Dan Marvin – 10.90
  • Gary DaSilva – 11.90
  • Jim Edwards – 12.90
  • Matt Costable – Pro Comp
  • Chris Seaplata – Open Comp
  • Nicole Meloche – Bike/Sled
  • Joe Carlos – KOTS Bike
  • “Drago” – KOTS Car
  • Chuck Nagy – Can-Am Stock/SS

* Tim Kennelly the 9.90 winner also prevailed in the Champion of Champions shootout for the very cool Matco Tools box.  He was closest to his dial in overall — running a 9.931 on a  9.93 to win that!

Peter Nolan (from Bradford) scored in the 8.90 Extreme Street class with his very cool ’62 Falcon

The weekend’s racing activities also included some special added attractions for attending fans including a number of Jet car exhibition runs and various Pro car testing.   Tony Pontieri and Amo Paone had their mountain-motored ADRL Pro Stocker on hand as did Pro Mod Corvette racer Tim Martin (Barrie ON) who was sporting a new Ajax Racing Engines program.

The biggest news was however some (highly impressive) licensing runs by London’s Paul Noakes who is upgrading to Top Fuel behind the wheel of Barry Paton’s Tim Horton-sponsored dragster.

DragRaceCanada will be posting more in-depth coverage of that development later this week (staged to go up while we are away at Indy) – so check back in the Lucas Oil Hotzone subsection for that.

OSCA circuit regular Wayne Mahoney won the event’s Pro Stock class
