Former PMRA Champ to Rebound

Vito Montesano announces a return to drag racing after a one year absence…..former series champ to debut a new Firebird Pro Mod for 2013….

After a year’s absence, 2011 Pro Modified Racing Association champion Vito Montesano is returning.
.
“I’ve missed it a lot”, Montesano said about his year away from the PMRA. “I need the fix, it gets in your veins.”
.
Montesano will be returning with a new car for 2013, a Vanishing Points Race Cars 1968 Firebird. The Firebird will be powered by a 522-cubic inch Brad Anderson (BAE) Hemi from the shops of ERD (Engine Research & Development) of Jordan Station, Ontario with a C-Rotor Screw-type Supercharger from PSI Superchargers and tweaked by ERD. A Lenco three-speed with a Coan Racing torque converter sits behind the engine.
.
Montesano faced stiff competition in 2011, but always qualified strong and went rounds to stay in contention. He won the Labor Day “Thunder by the Beach” event at Grand Bend in 2011, and also posted some of the best passes in PMRA history, including several under six-second passes with speeds of over 245-mph, with a season best of 5.889-seconds and a 246.17-mph during the year. His championship was not decided until the final run of the final race, and he won the title by one point over Hamilton’s Bruce Boland.
He will return to the PMRA with Sal Vavala as crew chief for the MH Racing Team, with Elisabete Dos Santos, Carl Spiering, Jon Daniel Montesano, Melina Montesano, Alisia Montesano and Nino and Minnie back as team members. Primary sponsorship for the team will be provided by Marydel Homes.
.
Montesano added the new car still has to be assembled, but the team will be ready for the PMRA opener May 10-11 at US 131 Motorsports Park at Martin, Michigan, the first for the series this year.
.
“We’re planning on running the same setup with the new car,” he said. “And I’m coming back to win. Hopefully I haven’t lost my touch and our goal is to win more races.”
.
The PMRA will race a record eight times in 2013, and will compete several times in conjunction with its two companion series, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series and the Pro Bike & Sled Series, offering an exciting and complete package of drag racing action.
