GBM’s Quick 8 Debates!

A very cool added attraction during last weekend’s Stratford Spectacular at Grand Bend Motorplex was for the first time ever the inclusion of some Quick 8 Shootouts for both Top Dragster and Top Sportsman racers…..

Those inaugural wins came in very impressive style with Scott Wildgust and Fred Dejonge emerging victorious – both in record setting fashion.

Wildgust (from the Stratford area) put on a dominating display with his ReMax-sponsored Mike Bos-built dragster which included the quickest and fastest times ever seen in the Canadian Quick 32 series.  Wildgust qualified #1 with a 5.959 secs at 235.41 mph before beating the son and father team of Brady and Bill Moloughney consecutively in rounds one and two and then Toronto’s Tony Positano in the championship final.  Wildgust’s supercharged Ajax-engined machine ran a record 5.934 secs while winning in round two.

Dejonge (who is from Puslinch Ontario) wheeled his wickedly quick turbocharged Chevy Cobalt to victory in the TSQ8 stopping Spencer Hyde’s Chevy Camaro in the final round with a 6.565 secs at 216.63 mph.  Dejonge too qualified #1 with a 6.457 secs at an amazing and record fast 233.94 mph before beating Darren Grubb and Bill Wilson in the first two rounds of eliminations.

It is hoped that the success and interest shown in the inaugural Quick 8 added attraction at Grand Bend will eventually translate into that program becoming a regular feature for future Quick 32 series events.
