The horses have left the gate for Eastern Canada’s very own Can-Am Stock/Super Stock Series!….

That great group, which in 2016 is celebrating it’s 18th season, saw their first action under near ideal conditions and as an important part of Cayuga Dragway’s giant Victoria Day event feature race last weekend.

Two of the circuit’s most prominent racers – Tony Valerio and Rob Becker – emerged victorious.

In season race #1 held on Saturday, 31 cars answered the call to the lanes for round one.

After some ferocious early round action there were only two racers standing — Chris Lozon in his Super Stock Olds Achieva and Tony Valerio in his Stock eliminator Chevy Camaro. After a close race at the finish line in a double breakout, Valerio was the first winner of the season.

In that day’s special awards program. Lozon drew number 1 winning him the Mcintyre $100 award. John Wisman won a tire cleaning kit provided by Maple City Tire owner Doug Box and Dan Velenosi won the $50 gas card provided by Rick Hill for the best losing reaction time in round #1.

For Sunday’s 2nd event — a total of 30 cars made the call for round one.

After clawing through the competition was completed, 2 racers faced off for the title with Rob Becker in his GT/DA Camaro versus Tony Valerio in his E/CM Stocker Camaro.

After a very close race between best friends, Beckers .014 reaction time and 1 off the dial was enough to squeeze out Valerios .031 and dead on 5.

Rob Becker won in his Super Stocker on Sunday.

Becker was the winner of the Karbelt Bounty Hunter award for taking out the winner from Saturday. Additionally, Chuck Nagy won the #1 draw $100 dollar award sponsored by John Mcintyre, Venice Perno won the Maple City Tire cleaning kit provided by Doug Box, and Frank Federico won the $50 gas card provided by Rick Hill.

The next official scheduled Can-Am Stock/Super Stock series event isn’t until July-18-19th (at Grand Bend Motorplex) however pretty much every racer in the circuit is looking forward to participation in the much anticipated upcoming NHRA Northeast Division PC Richard.com National Open back at Cayuga Dragway this coming June 17-19th.

That event will feature and include a very significant field of top invading NHRA Lucas Oil Stock and Super Stock Divisional racers and some lucrative prize money to go with it courtesy of Montreal’s Canadian Drag Racing Hall of Fame founder, John Scotti*.

*(Scotti will present the biggest drag race for Stock/Super Stock racers to be held in Canada — with special shootouts featuring a total Cash Purse of $20,000 (US$)!)
