The month of August included two significant National Open events in Canada….
At British Columbia’s fabled Mission Raceway (Aug 7-8th) NHRA class car racing was featured in two aspects – a track presented National Open format that also included the concluding round for the 2021 Spider Electric NHRA Canadian Series.
Winners circle highlights from both days of racing included Dave Archambault (from Calgary) who won two titles for Super Comp driving his reliable Ford Probe. National Open wins went to Norm LaPointe (in Super Stock with his ’07 Cobalt) and to John Buszynski who scored in Stock with his E/SA ’70 Barracuda. Darren Keller won Super Gas in his Firebird and Jason Kendal claimed a S/ST win driving his Ford Thunderbird.

The event’s Spider Electric Canadian Series saw two local racers with solid wins — as Rick McKinney took his GT/MA Camaro to the Stock/Super Stock Combo title as did Steve Lowe with his ’68 Camaro in Super Street. Regina’s Bill Cawsey made the long tow out to B.C. a success when he won in S/G with his Ford Mustang.
Quebec’s Napierville Dragway also included NHRA class car competition during it’s National Open event (August 13-15th).
Louis Gill (from Val Belair PQ) starred winning both days over 20+ cars entered each day, driving the LaFontaine-Gill-Perigny GT/FA-classed Chevy Cavalier. For the event’s Super Index Combo (S/G – SC – SST) two skilled Ontario-based cars prevailed with Charlie Kenopic and Rick Stroud taking the titles.
The Napierville National Open also feature a vast array of ET category racing. The potent multi-car Angers family team – including Frank “The Tank” and “Left Lane” Fred — were dominate in Super Pro with each recording an event win in their similarly prepped dragsters.
Scott Wildgust (from Stratford ON) won the event’s 1/8th mile TS/TD Combo — which was his 3rd win of the season so far in the very consistent “Smokies Garage” Chevy Camaro.

Serge Marineau (from Laval PQ) was the Top Dragster winner for Sunday and the event’s hard fought Semi-Pro titles were claimed by Dominic Germain’s Ford Mustang (from Napierville) on Saturday and then by Sylvain LaLonde’s high-flying and rare SS Pontiac Acadian on Sunday.
