Western Canadian dragsters make big statement during opening laps of qualifying at Pomona…..The very formidable injected nitro cars driven by Don St. Arnaud and Gord Gingles both made thunder during the first qualifying round for Top Alcohol Dragster class racing for the season opening NHRA Winternationals at Pomona.
Edmonton’s Don St. Arnaud – who established the NHRA national speed record at Pomona Raceway last year (285.35 mph) – flew to a stunning 5.181 secs at 285.05 mph to earn the event’s provisional pole. Don’s ET was a new track record and a personal best ET.
Winnipeg’s Gord Gingles, driving for team owner Cliff Bakx, sits second on the list after guiding his 5.234 secs 276.35 mph run.
The rounds were both outstanding efforts considering the very high heat and poor atmospheric conditions evident at the event. Both racers will get two more scheduled qualifying attempts.
