Alberta’s Medicine Hat Drag Strip hosted it’s biggest annual event last weekend – the NHRA National Open….
Featuring a great mix of both local and regional bracket racers and NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Sportsman drivers — the event played out under ideal weather conditions.
The race featured some impressive multiple win performances by a pair of Alberta-based dragster drivers; Ed Van Der Kool (from Barnwell) and Bob Halina (from Vegeville). Van Der Kool – driving his Yancer-chassied car, won three trophies in total — winning both Super Pro and Top Comp on Saturday and then Top Comp again Sunday. Halina scored wins in both of the Super Comp (9.10 index) class eliminators (Sat & Sunday) driving his dragster and also added in a S/ST class win driving his cool ’67 Mustang Shelby (on Sunday).
