The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series touchdown event held at Yellowstone Drag Strip in Montana continued a torrid pace for a Canadian Sportsman racer ….
Kelowna’s BC’s Mike Shannon, who is arguably the hottest Sportsman racing in all of Canada right now, maintained his amazing season momentum. The versatile racer, who just recently scored a impressive “double up” at Mission Raceway in BC – almost duplicated that feat “and some” during the Acton Montana event.
On Sunday afternoon, Mike wheeled his ’57 Corvette to victory in Super Gas and then placed runner-up with his dragster in the Super Comp category.

Both of those championship final rounds were in fact all Canadian affairs. Mike beat the Ford Mustang raced by Regina’s Bill Cawsey in the S/G final but lost out to Calgary’s Robbie White in the S/C championship round.
And one day prior, Shannon continued his tune up for his upcoming and highly anticipated return trip to the NHRA Jegs All Stars event at Chicago (in two weeks) by winning not one — but two — different features held during the Saturday schedule. He scored in both the S/G and S/C “Shootouts” added attractions.
Robbie White’s win in the S/C class was also not the only Canadian dragster to find it’s way to victory lane. In Top Dragster, Trevor Ritchie, from Sherwood Park AB, who won the NHRA Arizona Nationals title last February, emerged victorious too.
