Nationals Score – For Jason Kenny

Ontario’s Jason Kenny collected his 3rd career win at the NHRA national event level yesterday during the NHRA’s AAA Insurance Midwest Nationals held at St. Louis….

Driving his very tired and true 2003 Corvette roadster – Jason (who is from Kingston) became the third Canadian Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series national event winner this season when be beat back a highly competitive Super Gas 9.90 program.

After qualifying #17 – Jason won seven gruelling rounds of competition racing his Accelerated Travel/Jegs sponsored machine.  In the final round his opponent Nick Folk left before the green which allowed Jason to cruise to a winning 9.868 secs at 161.77 mph.

“This was my first ever visit to this track — I kinda like it!”, said Jason post race.  “The last time Dad was there, in the 1980’s, he said the track went the opposite way. He pointed to the shutdown area and said “that’s where the starting line was.”

“On Sunday, I was having vacuum issues, which made dialing the car awfully difficult,” he added.  “But I hit the tree solid enough that I was able to get away with it. The two late round opponent red lights surely helped.  It’s only been a couple years since my last national event win, but it sure seems like it’s been a lot longer. Unloading the car Sunday morning to a pretty vacant sportsman pit area was also a nice feeling I hadn’t experienced in a while.”

Kenny will try to duplicate the feat and go “two for two” with his entry into the next NHRA national event this coming weekend at Maple Grove Raceway in PA.
