NDRA Adds Pro Doorslammer Class
After a successful inaugural season with its Alcohol Funny Car Series presented by Ohsweken Speedway, Canada’s National Drag Racing Association (NDRA) has announced the addition of a Pro Doorslammer division for it’s upcoing 2013 event lineup….
The NDRA Pro Doorslammer class will feature six-second, 200 mph plus door cars with unique body styles and engine combinations, providing fans with a throwback feel, reminiscent of the early days of Pro Modified and Quick 8 competition. And although the class is new to the NDRA schedule, the drivers contending for the first season championship are far from new when it comes to competing against one and other.
“Our acquisition of the HURA Pro Doorslammers makes for a good fit in the National Drag Racing Association,” stated NDRA’s Director of Operations Dale Boeru. “I’ve been involved with HURA from the formation of the association in 2011, helping Dave Earhart and the founding members wherever needed. When Dave approached me this fall about adding the Pro Doorslammer class to the NDRA program I knew it would be an ideal addition to our association. I know ninety percent of the members that were involved in HURA and they are a great bunch of veteran drivers that know how to put on a great show for the fans. With the excitement these cars will add to the NDRA lineup, it will definitely enhance our program for the spectators,” continued Boeru.
Last season the Pro Doorslammers travelled as far as Miramichi, New Brunswick to entertain fast door car fans, while hosting a number of events in Ontario as well. Series founder Dave Earhart sees the union of the door cars with the NDRA as a natural progression in the development of the class.
“I’m pleased that Dale was willing to take the Pro Doorslammer class and make it a part of the NDRA, it should flow nicely with the Alcohol Funny Car program they already have and give our drivers more exposure,” said Earhart. “In only two seasons we went from six founding members to 15 last year and doubled the number of events we had. Although things were progressing well I knew I was leaving a lot on the table with the marketing end of producing a successful series and getting the members the media attention they deserve. I have no doubt that the team of talented people working for the NDRA will take what I started to the next level and I look forward to the 2013 season.”
The 2013 schedule for the NDRA Pro Doorslammer division will be released in the New Year.
ABOUT THE NDRA
The National Drag Racing Association will present two racing classifications in 2013 with its Alcohol Funny Car Series presented by Ohsweken Speedway entering its second season of competition, while the newly added Pro Doorslammer division will provide spectators with an enhanced dose of high-octane entertainment.
The Alcohol Funny Car division represents one of the most exciting groups of vehicles and competitors in all of motorsport. Reaching speeds of more than 250 miles per hour in 5.6 seconds over the quarter-mile racing distance is just the beginning. These 3000 horsepower machines feature flip top carbon-fiber bodies that enamour fans both young and old.
NDRA Pro Doorslammers are a unique bunch of race vehicles that evoke a certain type of emotion from spectators who watch them. The combination of late model body styles with those many people would remember from their childhood gives the class a personal feel. Add in engine combinations that include superchargers, turbochargers and nitrous and you’ve got a recipe for impressive, six-second, 200 mile per hour runs down the quarter-mile.
The NDRA is proudly supported by Ohsweken Speedway, Fast Entertainment Inc. and Canadian Drag Racer Magazine.
