NDRA t0 Add Excitement for Canadian Nitro Nationals

Anticipation and excitement is ebbing through the veins of racing fans as the teams of some of the most powerful and eclectic cars prep for the 5th Annual Canadian Nitro Nationals at Toronto Motorsports Park – Cayuga Dragway this coming weekend (July 11, 12 & 13)…..

Track owner, Uli Bieri and track manager, Neale Armstrong have built Canada’s largest independent race event into one of the best drag racing entertainment packages offered anywhere on the continent!

The National Drag Racing Association (NDRA) is proud to be part of this unmatchable spectacle of speed with their amazing contingent of Alcohol Funny Cars, Pro Doorslammers and Nitro Nostalgia Funny Cars.

Back in the mix for this year’s Alcohol Funny Cars battle is Larry Dobbs’ Sportz Truck Tents by Napier Enterprises sponsored ’02 Firebird. This time around, newly licensed Kardiac Kids Racing crew member, Tyler Scott is in the cockpit. Two-time NDRA – AFC champion, Dobbs will be coaching Tyler for a victorious re-match with the Ron Bankes Marine Service / Federated Insurance backed 2002 Firebird. Bankes edged Larry out in the final round at this event last year and Dobbs has high confidence that his new driver will take the stripe this year.

Make no mistake though… the Bankes – Cox Racing bunch are steadfast to take that prestigious drive to the winners’ circle again in 2014.

This new guy isn’t Bankes’only threat. He better be aware that he is in the gun sights of a bunch of very hungry drivers and a couple of other new ones.

London, Ontario’s Dylan Hache is itching to take his For Wheels Racing ‘02 Firebird to a Nitro Nationals win. Keep an eye on him. With plenty of wins under his belt and a very capable car, he’s more than likely to do it!

Paul Noakes of London, ON will be lining up with his new McKinney built 2011 Mustang body, wrapped around his existing proven engine and drive-train. The Meritor Motorsports, Euclid, Harman HVS sponsored car will be a certain crowd favorite. Noakes has had some great successes on the national scene, such as his huge win at the NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove in Reading, PA last October. He presently sits at number 22 in the LODRS 2014 roster.

Ant Hill Mob Racing; headed up by former European Top Fuel champion Smax Smith recently purchased Noakes’ last chassis, dropped in a 540 and topped it off with their deadly looking ’35 Chevy body. At the controls, Aiden Headley Smith is ready to wow the fans with a crowd appealing car and a strong run for the win.

Paul Zgoda’s son, Chris will be another new driver to challenge the veterans for the glory of a Nitro Nationals victory. Dad is proud of his kid’s skills on the throttle of their ’94 Olds Achieva and is confident that he is ready to take the win light.

Vince Rastelli from Gasport, NY is focused on taking the Pontiacs from their seemingly traditional spot in the winners’ circle with his ’01 Corvette. You can bet that die-hard Chevy fans will be watching him closely.

With Brian White newly seated in the 2000 Firebird, the Foxy Delivery Service crew is geared for taking out the entire field. White is raring to make his new ride debut a memorable one for his NDRA adversaries and pals!

Rob Atchison of London, ON is a three time IHRA Funny Car champion, an ET and MPH record holder and has 21 national event wins in his resume. With an impressive list of sponsors such as Atchison Machine Service, West Coast Transportation, NGK, Aeroquip, Jet Tools, Mahle Clevite, Speed Pro, Felpro and Permatex as well as a top-tier pit crew, his 2006 Monte Carlo has all of the necessary ingredients for a victorious cruise down the return lane.

Then there is the new-comer team from Monroe, New Jersey. Methanol Monster Racing; with Duane Beers in the seat, plan to make their mark with their Camaro at Cayuga this year. Will they upset the apple cart? They seem to think so.

No matter what; this year’s field of NDRA Alcohol Funny Cars is going to be an exciting mix and promises to keep fans on the edge of their seats all weekend at the 5th Annual Nitro Nationals.

Added to the NDRA major presence, are the ever-popular Pro Doorslammers. In their second year at the Nitro Nationals, these guys will thrill the masses with their array of door cars with unique body styles and + 2,000 HP engine combos. With mega passes in the six-second range, spectators are in for a heap of high-power entertainment!

On the roster, Jack Brohman of Jarvis, ON is fixing on a solid win with his Nazca Racing ’69 Camaro SS. With forty-five plus successful years on the throttle and rolling onto one of his favorite tracks, Brohman is sure to give the Cayuga Dragway fans a huge bang for their buck!

Trevor Deeks who marginally took second place in the 2013 NDRA Pro Doorslammers competition, is intent on capturing top spot this year. His Comprehensive Mechanical, Hutch Trans Service sponsored ’05 Grand Am is ready for the task at hand and Deeks plans to knock ‘em off one by one for the June 13 final.

Bayfield, Ontario’s Wayne Nielsen and his ’94 Lumina Z34, along with Medford, MI based Jerry Ransford, driving his 2003 Grand Am, Tom Stuart out of Chatham, ON at the controls of his ’92 Firebird and Brighton, MI’s Dave Sullivan piloting his classic ’63 Corvette are all in the hunt for the winners’ circle too. There is absolutely no doubt that the Pro Doorslammer action will be fierce!

Rounding out the National Drag Racing Association show, the Nostalgia Nitro Funny Cars will be on hand for seat shaking entertainment! Doug Cadman’s Trackless Vehicle Ltd. sponsored, Alan Johnson hemi powered ’73 Dodge Charger; the Chi-Town Hustler is a renowned crowd favorite. Cadman will line up with Gary Kraus and his nitro guzzling BAE hemi ’72 Ford Mustang; the Pony Up for 3,000 horsepower flame belching side by side duels.

With all of the unbridled power and eye candy mix the National Drag Racing Association will be a highlight spectacular that will pop the adrenaline meter at Cayuga Dragway’s 5th Annual Canadian Nitro Nationals!
