Nostalgia Game Changing
Canada’s most notable Nostalgia Funny Car racing team is planning a very aggressive 2012 drag racing season. Driven by Tim Boychuk, expectations are that the Troy Lee Designs-sponsored Firebird will remain at the forefront within the popular category…
Coming off a super successful 2011 campaign, which included multiple event wins, the Edmonton-based racing operation is focused on the continuation of that success. Overseen by Ron Hodgson, and including the tuning expertise of legends Roland Leong and Bob Papirnick, there is no doubt that this invading Canadian team is one of the most talented overall.
“We are entering year three with this car and combination,” confirmed driver Tim Boychuk. “We started out at Phoenix and our initial big focus will be next week on the upcoming March Meet at Bakersfield. After that we have an extensive racing season planned in both the U.S. and inCanada.”
While the team’s winning ways are already very well documented, Boychuk confirmed that some extra emphasis on performance is in the works for this year. To date they have a best time of 5.63 secs at 258 mph to their credit — one of the quickest and fastest times on record – but it is not “the record”.
“Bob and Roland have been busy during the off-season working on some enhancements,” Tim added. “Our intent is to try to defend all that we did last year but there are a lot of fast cars on our circuit now. We have set some personal performance targets – dipping into the 5.5 secs zone and topping 260 mph.”
The team’s primary sponsors, Troy Lee Designs and Castrol Canada are back on board for 2012. The team has also added to it’s already rather vast list of associate backers for this season with new additional signings in that department including Aero Jet, Crystal Glass, Safety-Kleen and Featherlite Trailers.
Canadian racing fans can expect to see the car in action at both Mission Raceway andEdmonton’s Castrol Racing this coming summer.
