Oil City Nationals – Hi-Per Al Miles Still on a Roll
The CMDRA returned to Edmonton’s Castrol Raceway on June 22nd for the Oil City Nationals, and all eyes were on the reigning Screamin’ Eagle Pro Dragster Champion, Hi-Per Al Miles…
Miles attempted to continue the winning streak which saw him complete the 2013 season undefeated. After a disappointing performance in qualifying left Miles fourth on the ladder, it looked as though this could be the day when his long time rival, Doug Casson, would take his turn in the winner’s circle. Casson’s top qualifying run provided the fastest ET of the day for the class at 7.715 seconds, however mechanical failure prevented him advancing beyond the first round of eliminations and Miles went on to take home his first CMDRA trophy of 2014.
Kevin Pettitt, also continued his winning ways, as the 2013 Screamin’ Eagle XL 883 and Hot Harley Champion found his way into the final elimination rounds for three different classes. At the end of the day, Pettitt came away with first place trophies in Hot Harley and Screamin’ Eagle XL 883, as well as a runner up finish in the Street Class. Meanwhile, 2013 Pro Street Champion, Rob Aston, who found himself in the unique situation of running his Pro Street machine in the Blackjack’s Roadhouse Pro Modified division for the day, surprised everyone by picking up the win.
Up next, the CMDRA National Points Series moves to the M.H.D.R.A. Drag Strip in Medicine Hat Alberta on July 12th and 13th, while the Screamin’ Eagle V-Rod Destroyer Eastern Series heads to Napierville Quebec on July 5th and 6th.
