OSCA Race #4 Recap

Race #4 on the OSCA’s 2012 schedule was billed as the Hot Summer Brawl but Mother Nature had other ideas….

After a very long stretch of  hot summer the weather took a turn for the worse.  Saturdays qualifying session was axed after two days of intense rain. A single qualifier Sunday morning lead straight into racing action for the OSCA’s faithful that stuck it out.

The track was hooking hard and racing was running smoothly until a narrow band of rain halted the action in the early afternoon. Crews were on track prepping the track quickly in hopes the event could be put in the books, and it was.

EZ Street had a very stout line up as some of the Ontario’s finest 7 second street legal race cars would go head to head looking for the win. Noel Borg of Maple, ON., would have his 89 Mustang LX launching hard and would find himself in the finals against the gorgeous single turbo 2000 Camaro of Nick Agostino. Agostino’s Camaro has a presence about it even when sitting still so backing up the look with consistent 5.0’s in the 1/8th made him tough to beat this day. In the finals, Borg would sky the front end and have to get out of it and could only watch as Agostino would stop the clocks at 5.10 to his own 9.60.

Mike Dimech and John Cudizio would put on a show in the finals of Pro Stock as Dimech nailed the tree with Cudizio close behind. Dimech would take the holeshot win with his slower 5.32 beating the slightly quicker 5.30 of Cudizio.

OSCA’s newest bike class “King of the Street” is devoted to naturally aspirated street legal motorcycles. Mark Stein would make his first final round appearance on his wicked 2005 GSXR 1000. In the other lane would be the the camo coloured 06 ZX14 of Chris Fenech. Fenech had been running strong all day and did so again as he stopped the clocks in 5.66 seconds to defeat Stein who saved his best pass for last running 5.75 in the 1/8th.
