PTRA & Can-Am Stock/SS – St. Thomas Report

The Pro Tree Racing Association (PTRA) recently teamed up with CanAm S/SS at St.Thomas Raceway Park….

The event, held over the first weekend in August, provided  fans with wild wheels up, bumper to bumper drag racing action.

PTRA has had its standouts during its short inception and on this weekend that racer would be Drew Buchner of Aylmer, ON. Drew would double class running Pro Comp and Open Comp both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s Pro Comp action would be tight as Drew made his way through the field to find himself taking to the line against the wheel standing 86 Buick Regal of Rob Vandermeer in the finals. Buchner chopped down the tree with Vandermeer right behind. It would be a fight to the stripe with both racers running slightly under their dials with Drew Buchner claiming the victory.

In Open Comp Buchner would find himself paired up with Scott Grunland and his 97 S-10. Again Buchner got out first and again he was victorious to take his second win of the day.

Trophy Comp would see the 96 Firebird of Al Laslo, driven by S/SS competitor Ian Hill in the finals taking on the beautiful 66 Fairlane of Roland Pellerin. Pellerin ran close to the number but Hill used his starting line advantage to take the Trophy Comp win.

Can Am S/SS would be no contest as Jim Lindsay went red with his 1970 Ford Maverick giving the easy win to Tom Simon and his highflying 69 Camaro.

Sunday’s Pro Comp finals would have the familiar orange Camaro of Drew Buchner taking on the gorgeous 1986 Monte Carlo of Chris Vanbalen. Vanbalen knew he would need the starting line advantage but left too early giving Buchner his third victory of the weekend.

Jarrod Kolne was handed the Open Comp win after his competitor Paul Forrest left before the tree was activated. Al Laslo would get behind the wheel of his 96 Firebird in Trophy Comp on Sunday and would also find himself putting the red Pontiac into the winner circle defeating Roland Pellerin with that beautiful 66 Fairlane.

A pair of wheel standing Chevy’s would reach the finals of CanAm S/SS as the ATI Performance Products 05 Cavalier of Ian Hill would take on the super clean 84 Camaro of Brian Clayton. Hill would put together a great package to take the win as Clayton ran closer to his dial, but on the negative side of the #
