PTRA Civic Holiday Update

St.Thomas Raceway Park was jam packed once again as racers recently pulled through the gates over the recent Civic Holiday long weekend to take their shot at landing in the winners circle….
.
With several choices to suit each racers needs the one that seems to be the most enjoyable from a racers stand point is the ever growing Pro Tree Racing Association.
.
Word is getting out that even if you don’t win at a PTRA race you can still walk away with an excellent selection of awards and prizes. A Winner of the Loser’s draw for competitors that don’t make it to the money rounds gives them a chance at winning a gift certificate to Performance Unlimited in London ON, and also a dyno session at Misener Motorsports in Brantford ON. There is a bounty hunter prize for the person who takes out the #1 qualifier in both Open Comp and Pro Comp. There’s even a prize for the first person to red light and also one for the first to break out in competition rounds.
.
This holiday long weekend brought out several new faces ready to line up for the pro tree. One of the new faces taking part was John Hutchison of Hutch’s Transmission in London, ON.  Entered in Pro Comp with his beautiful 1969 Plymouth RoadRunner, Hutch would beat out some tough competition then find himself in the finals taking on the newly acquired Camaro Z28 of Boomer Duquette. Always one to buy a flawless race car, Duquette’s choice this time was a proven car and it showed as he skillfully made his way to the final round. When the light went green it was Hutch out first with an .026 reaction time> Boomer was close behind so the dash to the 1/8th mile would make for an exciting race but in the end, Hutch would run under with a 6.33 on his dial of 6.35 to Duquette’s impressive 5.76 on a 5.76 dial. Congratulations to Boomer on his first PTRA Pro Comp win!

In Open Comp the familiar orange Camaro driven by Drew Buchner of Aylmer, ON., would make another final round appearance and this time would find himself lined up against the street driven 67 Pontiac Firebird of Randy Nunn. A real battle to the line forced both racers under with Buchner taking the win running a 6.978 on his 6.98 dial to Nunn’s 7.458 on a 7.46 dial.Buchner’s slight starting line advantage was just enough to give him the win.
This was the last scheduled event of 2013 for the PTRA but plans for a September race(possibly 14/15) are being worked on right now so be sure to check the St.Thomas Raceway Park website in the near future for a confirmed date.
