Strong Season Statement!

The continued rise of Spiro Kontos’ NHRA TAFC team was once again a top Canadian drag racing news maker for 2012…..

Based from Ontario’s GTA, the KonRodz Racing Chevy Monte Carlo which features very talented American driver Cassie Simonton (Brooklyn MN) at the controls, amassed quite a list of accomplishments during the past racing season.  With that, the team rose to a much higher profile on a national stage for the very demanding category and became a serious contender at each and every race entered.

The season highlight “hit list” was impressive to be sure.  In April, they ran a career best 5.536 secs at 261.47 mph at Charlotte to become Canada’s all time quickest TAFC.  In June, Cassie and the team qualified #1 at the Joliet regional race with a 5.605 secs and promptly followed that up with superb and back-to-back final round appearances at the national event level — Route 66 Nationals (Joliet) and Summit Racing nationals (Norwalk).  Overall the team finished #14 in the world in NHRA – their best placing so far after being together for only 3 years.

“From my career perspective I went further then I ever dreamed I would this year,” said Cassie who at age 26 is regarded a budding star driver within NHRA.  “In my opinion I have the best car, best crew chief and best owner that any racer could have.  We get better and better each time out.”

Cassie, Spiro and the team will continue their forward trek together in 2013 and are using the just past racing season as inspiration for that.

“We will run the same car and team and continue to refine it,” she added.  “Randy (Anderson) has some new performance stuff that we will introduce.   We came so painfully close to winning our first “Wally” last year so that is definitely our main goal for next season.  We are also focused on finishing higher in the NHRA regional and world standings.”

The team has come a very long way in a relatively short period and amazingly have done everything as independents.   Team owner Spiro reports that his quest for major sponsorship continues in order to help the team reach World Championship level contention which remains his ultimate goal.

And for any of those potential sponsorship parties — it goes without saying that they would be well served with any alliance formed with this personable and potential ridden team.

The continuing Can-Am racing partnership between Cassie Simonton and Spiro Kontos continued to pay dividends during 2012.
