Southern Ontario’s St. Thomas Dragway featured a special edition NHRA recognized event recently….
After rain put a damper on Saturdays racing action it was business as usual for Sunday’s program. That included the Sinister 16 which brought out a full field of impressive machines gunning for the $2100 put up to win.
Bill Heisler had one of the more outrageous entries in the class with his blown 484ci 41 Willy’s. Wild wheels up launches had him running 4’s in the 1/8 but unfortunately He would go -.003 red handing the win to John Green in round #1. Green would win his next race setting up a semi final match up against the 2010 M&M dragster of Joe Passero.
The win was Passero’s after Green went -.002 red. Passero rolled through the rounds to meet up with the beautiful 69 Camaro of Ian Hill in the finals. It was a perfect match up as both racers had been quick on the tree and deadly consistent all day. Unfortunately for Hill he left early giving the win to Passero. Hill’s -.0001 was a heartbreak but Passero would have been tough to beat as he ran 4.7302 on his 4.73 dial.
Can Am S/SS had good air and a stellar track so the wheels were up a little higher and longer then usual for some competitors. In the end, Bob Park (Dundas ON) kept his win streak alive against Brian Clayton, putting his 82 Camaro in the winners circle after both racers broke out at the stripe.
Winners in each ET class at this event received some special recognition from NHRA (Ontario Drag Racing Championships) that included a prestigious plaque commemorating their achievements.
That included : (Renway Super Pro) Phil Sampson (ClearShot Pro) Ryan Goch (NP Street) Gary Leek (Sonic Bike/Sled) Rob Rock (Western Jr.Dragster) Monica Roberts (Jr. Cons) Lauren Howell.
