Super Gas Superiority!

One of Eastern Canada’s longest running Super Gas class racers showed his stuff again during last weekend’s NHRA Uni-Select Auto Plus Nationals at scenic Maple Grove Raceway….

Charlie Kenopic, from Renfrew Ontario, who placed runner-up in the NHRA 9.90 indexed Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Sportsman category during NHRA’s New England Nationals last June,  scored his first NHRA national event win when he beat former Lucas Oil World Champion Iggie Boicesco to the stripe at the event held in Pennsylvania.

Driving his ultra reliable Chevy-powered 23T roadster Charlie was first off the starting line with a .028 RT and his 9.926 secs at 144.94 mph held off Boicesco’s Corvette which ran 9.954 secs at 163.26 mph.

Prior to that Kenopic had qualifed #12 for the eliminator with a 9.911 secs before winning five gruelling rounds of competition to make the final.

While this win was his first at the NHRA national event level — Kenopic is anything but a stranger to winning major drag racing events.  His career accomplishments include winning four IHRA nationals including Cayuga’s Canadian Nationals back in 2003.
