The Konigshofer Brothers Racing team have emerged as an early season strength within IHRA Mountain Motor Pro Stock racing….
The Ontario-based trio (John, Joe & Frank), who have been a fixture within Canadian Pro Stock class racing for decades, notched a very nice win during last weekend’s IHRA Good Vibrations Nationals held near San Antonio Texas. This win, combined with a runner-up finish at the previous event, the IHRA’s season opener event in Orlando (in March) has put this race team #1 overall in Pro Stock points.
At San Antonio Raceway “Johnny K” won the event from a position of power. That indication came early when he qualified his Jerry Haas-built and Jon Kaase-powered Ford Mustang #1 with a superb 6.225 secs at 225.34 mph – which in fact held up for both low ET and top speed of the meet.
Then in rounds one and two of competition he took the measure of fellow Canadian Larry O’Brien Dodge followed by John DeFlorian’s Chevy Camaro.
But in the Championship round he used a hole shot start to outrun Trevor Eman’s Carribean-based Ford Mustang. Konigshofer clocked a winning 6.255 secs at 224.78 mph compared to Eman’s quicker 6.240 secs at 223.10 mph.
“It was an awesome day for us; the car is strong,” Konigshofer said. “Jon Kaase gave us some awesome motors. We ran 6.22 (seconds) this morning in real good conditions. I thought we could maybe grab the record tonight, but it wasn’t there. We’re really happy with the car; everyone’s doing their jobs, the brothers are doing their jobs so it’s working.”
For the Konigshofer Brothers, this event win was in fact the third of their careers within IHRA racing. They had scored two very memorable wins back in 2002 (at Toronto and Norwalk) and took another title during the IHRA’s 2014 version Presidents Cup Nationals in Maryland.
