This weekend August 20-21 will see the Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series descend upon St Thomas Raceway Park in Sparta, Ontario for a double header weekend in memory of Tim Thorne. Presented by The Second City Toronto, there will be two races this weekend – both run on the 1/8th mile – with Saturday’s race paying a guaranteed $1000 to win.
“Competition will be at a very high level this weekend as the points chase is heating up,” said TNTSS Director Ted Barnes. “In the next four weeks, the TNTSS will run six races at four different tracks and crown the 2011 champion!”
In a joint effort with the Can Am Stock / Super Stock Series, this weekend is dedicated to the late Tim Thorne. There will be a barbeque on Saturday night free for all TNT Super Series and Can Am Stock / Super Stock drivers and crew.
“We’ll be taking donations for the Heart & Stroke Foundation in Tim’s memory,” said Joe Boniferro, TNTSS title sponsor. “Tim was very well known around here and had a significant impact on the local racing community.”
This past year has been exceptionally tough on the southern Ontario drag racing community also losing Gene Emes, Gerald Anderson and most recently Jim Moore.
Along with the barbeque, there will be goodie bags from Permatex and Performance Improvements for the first 35 racers. “This weekend is going to be alot of fun,” added Ted. “It’s going to be a real celebration in memory of Tim.”
In addition to the two TNTSS races this weekend, the series will also finish an event from May 21st that still has six cars remaining.
Gates open Friday for weekend camping. Open time trials at 10am Saturday, qualifying at noon with eliminations to follow. Sunday will also include the regular St Thomas Raceway Park bracket classes.

The TNTSS is a self-governing organization with input from its teams. Based on NHRA’s Super Street & IHRA’s Hot Rod classes, competitors run on a 10.90 index in the 1/4 mile (7.00 in the 1/8 mile) and race for a guaranteed purse that pays back more than 100% of the racer’s entry fees. The TNTSS is committed to providing the highest level of competition backed by solid media support to showcase its participants across North America. Events are contested at various drag racing facilities in southern Ontario and western New York and put on a spectacular show for the drag racing fan.
