Winternationals Opener to B.C.’s Rob Harrison!
For North Vancouver’s Rob Harrison, his first trip back to the NHRA Winternationals at Pomona in 11 seasons was about as successful as he could have hoped for…..
The highly talented and innovative racer, along with his partner Al Lougheed, managed to slay them all during yesterday’s weather deferred conclusion to the Kragen O’Reilly Winternationals Sportsman racing action.
Harrison claimed his most significant victory to date when he held off Alabama’s David Rampy to win the Competition eliminator final round and title. Driving his totally unique J/A classed and now Ford Escort bodied car (which features a home designed and built 6-cylinder engine), Harrison combined a superior final round RT of .017 with a run of 7.610 secs at 177.56 mph to take the event championship. Harrison had to overcome a .16 CIC penalty which had been assessed because of an earlier performance.
Rob had entered eliminations the #3 seed after qualifying with a run of 7.629 secs which was .691 under his index. He then won four rounds before facing Rampy in the final.
DragRaceCanada will have an additional feature on Rob and Al in the very near future — so watch for that coming soon to the Lucas Oil Hotzone.
