A Canadian World Championship Title Looms!
A NHRA Lucas Oil World Championship title is coming to Canada (for sure)…….but the final details are still to be determined…
The season long battle for the ultra competitive Super Comp (8.90) NHRA World title has boiled down to two Canadian racers: Al Kenny (from Kingston ON) and Stefan Kondolay (from Chilliwack BC).
One of those two racers will claim the title following action this coming weekend during NHRA’s AAA Auto Club Finals at Pomona Auto Club Raceway in California.
Following action at the final NHRA LODRS event of the year held last weekend at Las Vegas the senerio is as follows:
The Super Comp is the lone title still to be decided and will come down to the final event of the season. Al’s son Jason kept the title hopes alive for his Dad when he knocked out Stefan Kondolay in round 1 (and then went on to win the event). Al Kenny is leading the chase with 612 points but Kondolay can tie him with at least a semifinal finish next week and pass him for the championship if he advances to the final round. Al Kenny cannot claim points at Pomona.
