Arend to Race Special Edition Mooneyes Car
Canada’s favorite drag racing son – Jeff Arend – will kick off his 2nd full season as driver for the Jim Dunn Racing team with a repeat performance in a special edition machine during the upcoming season-opening NHRA Winternationals at Pomona. At that event his Jim Dunn Racing team will bring back the Mooneyes/Grime Boss Funny Car for the 2014 kickoff event….
Back by popular demand, Jim Dunn Racing will once again be running the Mooneyes Tribute Funny Car at the 2014 NHRA Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.
“The fan response when we unveiled the car at the NHRA Finals was incredible,” said team manager, Jon Dunn. “It just made perfect sense for us to bring the Mooneyes car back for the Winternationals in Pomona.”
Jeff Arend is excited to race the Mooneyes car again. “I feel so honored to be part of an elite club who has driven the Mooneyes car,” said Arend, a native of Toronto Ontario. “The only other drivers were Kenji Okazaki and the late Al Hofmann.”
The Mooneyes logo is one of the most recognized in racing. The popular speed shop began in the 1950’s by Dean Moon in the garage of his parent’s café and continues to be a power house in motorsports today.
NHRA is where Mooneyes got its start, and the two companies share a long history. Fans can check out the Mooneyes exhibit at the NHRA Museum for free during the Winternationals. Trams will be running all weekend to shuttle fans from the track to the museum. Featured in the exhibit are Mooneyes cars of the past, including the Funny Car driven by Kenji Okazaki.
First round of qualifying for the 2014 Winternationals starts at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 7th. Jeff Arend will also be signing autographs for fans in the Top Eliminator Club on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
