Baker’s Buick Prevails

Congratulations are in order for Glen Baker of Ballinafad Ontario who has captured the 2013 Can-Am Stock/Super Stock Series points championship……

Driving his familiar and truly rare SS/KA classed 1971 Buick GS, Baker won a hard fought series title after a rather dramatic clinching performance during the series’ final race of the season held at Cayuga Dragway in early October.

Baker validated his championship ticket when he took out his nearest points rival, Chuck Nagy from Niagara Falls, in a highly consequential round #1 match-up.  Nagy had poised himself to be the series champion too if he could have prevailed to win that race.  For Baker, it was his first Can-Am Stock/SS championship title.

After 13 events in 2013 the final season points tally was ultra tight and very competitive;  Baker had 24 points, runner-up Bob Park had 23 points and Chuck Nagy and Dave Drewitt finished tied for third with 21 points each.

The final race of 2013 for the series also featured another first when Don “The Legend” Cloake emerged victorious for the first time in the series.  Driving his ultra popular SS/AH Hemi-powered ’68 Barracuda Don ran down another series veteran Jim Lindsay in the final round.

Cloake’s win came over a rather impressive 31-car field of race cars which were present for the season finale.
