CANADA’s DANNY ROWE HOLDS STEADY AT NO. 2 IN NHRA PRO MOD POINTS
By: Wes Buck
Following three back-to-back events on the Get Screened America NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series tour, Danny Rowe (originally from Calgary AB) and the Sterling Bridge team are holding tight onto the No. 2 spot in the championship points series.
After a string of strong qualifying efforts (No. 2 in Englishtown, No. 3 in Bristol, No. 10 in Norwalk), Rowe used a seemingly standard trip to the semifinals to gain some ground on points leader, Von Smith, but an early exit in Bristol and quarterfinal round finish in Norwalk wasn’t enough to close the gap.
“We really wanted to cut in on Von’s [Smith] lead during this three-race stretch,” said Rowe, following the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals in Norwalk. “We just didn’t capitalize on the opportunity we had in Norwalk, especially with Von going out in the first round. That’s part of racing, though. Things rarely go according to plan.”
In the world of NHRA Pro Modified, it’s true that the only thing racers can count on is the toughest competition in all of fast doorslammer racing, but despite the level of competition, Rowe has remained a perennial front runner and championship contender.
“I’m proud of the fact that we’ve remained in the thick of things, running towards the front of the pack from the start of the season. We’ve had a solid year so far, we’ve got a great group of people assembled here, an incredible team, loyal and very supportive sponsors – we’ve just got to make the most of the opportunities that are presented to us throughout the course of the next few races.
“If we learned anything in Norwalk, it’s that it’s anybody’s game out here,” said Rowe. “We’re closing in quickly on the end of the season, but it’s far from over. So many championships are won by teams that get on a roll, and that’s what it’s going to take for us. We’ve just got to go out there and do what we know we can do and take control of our destiny. We’re looking forward to Indy, just as we always do, and look to make our run at the world title at the NHRA U.S. Nationals.”
Danny Rowe and the Sterling Bridge Pro Modified team will take to the track next on September 1-6, 2010 during the Mac Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, Indiana at O’Reily Raceway Park at Indianapolis.
