Canadian Scores @ Jegs Pacific SPORTSnationals

Two Alberta racers collected very significant wins last weekend when they scored within the Lucas Oil Sportsman racing categories during the highly prestigious JEGS Pacific SPORTSnationals….

Both Dale Giroux and Rod Hymas earned wins driving their Chevrolet cars during the marquee all Sportsman racing attraction hosted by JEGS that is now held annually at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Giroux wheeled his Canyon Creek based Chevy Cavalier to the Competition eliminator title.   After qualifying #14 at .555 under his B/AA index Giroux waded through that 19-car field beating Californian Randy Jones in the final round when Jones had a red-light foul start driving his Camaro.   Giroux’s event winning time was 7.436 secs at 148.51 mph.

Dale Giroux (from Canyon Creek) won the JEGS Pacific SPORTSnationals Comp eliminator title.

The event’s Top Sportsman class title went to Rod Hymas from Standard AB who was the only Canadian entered within that 36 car field.

Hymas wheeled his great looking 1969 Camaro to a final round 7.097 secs (7.06 index) at 193.77 mph to run down Utah’s Ed Olpin for the championship.

Jones who qualified #11 (7.097 secs) did come close to “doubling up” at the event.  During Saturday’s added attraction TS Shootout he narrowly lost out in the final round to Tom Schmidt.

Rod Hymas (Standard AB) drove his great looking Camaro to an impressive win in Top Sportsman.
