HeadsUpRacer.com Summer Sizzler Results
2013 Cayuga Points Chases heat up as Series Reaches Halfway point…
The 2nd Annual HeadsUpRacer.com Summer Sizzler had its share of both spectacular racing, and untimely rain, as bad weather forced the cancellation of Saturdays Racing program which featured the NHRA Summit Racing Equipment “King of the Track” race, and the first race of two NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League (JDRL) challenge events. Both programs award winners with a coveted NHRA “Wally” trophy as well as other bonus prizes and awards from series sponsors.
With Saturday racing festivities washed out, Sunday produced a fantastic cool summer day, which brought out over 120 competitors, 75 of which were Modified and Super Pro competitors looking to compete for the NHRA “King of the Track” Wally.
Dilts Piston Hydraulics Modified Eliminator final, found former multi time track champion Bob Richards facing off against Jay Talbot and his 1971 Camaro. Unfortunately, for Talbot a final round red light gave Richards the free pass to the main event win and a chance at the “King of the Track” Wally.
The Renegade Race Fuels Super Pro final featured the age-old battle of Dragster versus Door Car. Claude Losier and his 1985 Dodge powered Laser made their season debut, and trekked straight into the final round where he would meet up against Shawna Woodstra and her Castrol Sponsored 2002 Horton Chassis Dragster. In the semifinals both competitors drilled the tree with identical .014 lights setting up the potential for an exciting final round, however like the Modified final the race was decided on the starting line when Shawna activated a -.006 red-light handing the Super Pro main event win over to Losier.
The “King of the Track” Wally run off Final between Bob Richards and Claude Losier proved to be a fantastic final with Richards initiating a .025 Reaction time compared to Losiers close .027. However, Losier would take the double break out victory by just .009 seconds and claim the NHRA Wally as well as the bonus $200 put up by DSE Automotive.
Emily Ramundo put both skill and luck to work to fight through a tough field of Jr Dragster Competitors to claim her first Jr Drag Racing League Challenge Victory. In the first Round, Emily was the lucky recipient of a -.006 Red light by Courtney Cisterna, which she needed as her car broke on the hit of the throttle.
The Ramundo race team would recover and get the car fixed for round two where Emily would go out and lay down a .009 package on Sarah Grennan, then follow that up with a .015 package in the semifinals against Morgan Manwaring to seal her spot in the JDRL Challenge final.
The final round would see Micheal Mccallum and his 2004 Harden’s Jr Dragster face off against Emily and her 2004 KCS Jr. Mccallum found his way into the final by beating points leader Haley Baker in round 1, then defeating Hailey Picciuto in round 2 and Taityn Summerfield in the semi finals.
Regrettably, for Mccallum he triggered a red light, and Ramundo received the automatic win
