New Racing Horizons for Tim Boychuk
There will be a major new direction for racing this season for Edmonton’s Tim Boychuk – one of Canada’s top rated Nostalgia Funny Car drivers….
In a rather significant off-season development, Boychuk who has claimed numerous and frequent major event wins in both NHRA and IHRA during a long and highly successful relationship with his racing team partner, Ron Hodgson, has confirmed that association has ended amicabily. Tim will instead reform his team with both a new look and new attitude as well as new participants.
“There has been lots of changes for sure – all for the better,” Tim confided. “Ron and I have decided to go separate ways and due to demands at his home in Vancouver, Bob Papernik will not be my crew chief this season.”
Instead Tim, who owns Boychuk Ventures Inc. (a very successful specialized trucking company) will chart a new course with some crew changes including a return to the team for Roland Leong (as crew chief), and the additions of Twig Ziegler (as car chief) and fellow Canadian racer Cal Tebb, who will join returning key team members Dan Brochu and Doug Syme.
Boychuk’s season focus will include both NHRA and IHRA circuit racing as well as some select match race appearances.
“The new IHRA series which is a return to competition is pretty attractive to us and the fact that MAV TV is going to be covering all their events is a real big positive,” Tim continued. “Our season in 2014 is going to be bigger and we are looking forward to being able race in both the USA and in Canada.”
Tim is in the final stages of assembling his revamped race team and the plan is to debut the car (with a fresh new look) at Phoenix later next week before then entering NHRA’s marquee annual March Meet at Bakersfield – where he is the defending event champion.
Boychuk’s initial 2014 season effort will be self-funded however he has confirmed that the hunt is on for new primary and associate sponsors. The car will be co-based from Tim’s facilities in Scottsdale Arizona and Edmonton AB.
