Nitro “On Tap” for Medicine Hat
A fire breathing 3-round match race date between two of Western Canada’s top Nostalgia Funny Cars is fast approaching….
This coming June 15-16th the MHDRA will host an exciting showdown between to ofAlberta’s top teams, the ACE Arrow and the Prospector Corvette Stingray.
Sponsored of Ace Manufacturing, the Arrow is owned by Sitko Family Racing and driven by Nathan Sitko based in Edmonton Alberta. Crew chief Ken Sitko heads the Sitko family operation that is iconic within Western Canadian alcohol dragster and funny car history.
Last season they made a major change to the nostalgia nitro funny car class and the team has progressed quickly through the intense learning curve involved with nitro racing. Just one year after debuting, they have a 5-second pass to their credit and driver Nathan is regarded as a sniper on the lights, and promises to be a major threat throughout 2012.
The Edmonton Fasteners and Tools sponsored Prospector Stingray is owned by Mageau Family Racing and driven by Jay Mageau. Based in Spruce Grove, the Mageau family is also long time western Canadian racers; however this family’s history has been running cars in almost every class.
The team changed to nitro racing 5 years ago after running a series of alcohol funny cars and altereds, their most famous perhaps being a 1957 Chevy-bodied car. The new Prospector Corvette Stingray has run a best of 6.06 secs and the team is impatiently waiting for the first 5-second time to light up the score board.
Both families include three generations of racers. The patriarchs of each team raced together in the sixties, and each successive generation grew up together at the tracks. Together they span 6 decades of Western Canadian race history. These two teams are great friends off the track, but once the stage bulb is lit, they are both gunning for the win!
The best of 3 match race show down goes Friday June 15, and Saturday June 16. The event will mark the first ever side-by-side Nostalgia Nitro Funny Car runs ever for the Medicine Hat Motorplex facility.
