Winning recognition from a couple of major independent Pro Mod circuits….

North American drag racing’s Pro Modified class contingent “gets at it” during recent season kickoff events hosted for both the NMCA and MWDRS.

Shawn Ayers raced his supercharged Camaro to victory during the NMCA’s season opener held at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida. Ayers (who is from Mississippi) collected during the VP Racing Lubricants Xtreme Pro Mod class during the Whipple Superchargers NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem presented by Holbrook Racing Engines event (March 18-21). After qualifying #4 he bested a robust full field – which saw 16 drivers drivers run between 3.63 and 3.80 in qualifying. The final round saw Shawn Ayers face Todd Tutterow with Ayers taking the win with a 3.58 secs.
At the Summit Racing Mid-West Drag Racing Series first race of 2021 (March 20-21st) held Xtreme Raceway in Ferris TX, it was Kentucky’s Tommy Cunningham emerging the winner. After qualifying his screw-blowner ’67 Mustang 9th of 21 for the Stroud Safety-presented Pro Mod class, Cunningham made it through Jeff Rudolf, Todd Martin and Ed Thornton to reach the final round versus Jim Whiteley. That final was however over as soon as it began, as Whiteley left six-thousandths of a second too soon to negate a 3.67 pass while Cunningham won with a 3.66 at 200.89-mph run.
