Using both consistency and driving prowess, the New Dundee-based Roth Racing Willys found it’s way back to victory lane during the PMRA portion of the annual Stratford Spectacular event – regarded as one of Canada’s most successful independent races.

After qualifying his supercharged 1941 Willys Pro Modified #2 (6.048 secs) in the field that featured a record entry list of 15 participants, Roth worked his way to the final to run against three-time PMRA champion and number one qualifier Bruce Boland of Stoney Creek.

But in a very unexpected development, Boland uncharacteristically left before the tree was activated which gave Jeff’s team the automatic win.2014_Stratford-Spectacular-Hot-August-Nationals_Winners-Circle_Jeff-Roth--300x174

“Today was a good day,” said Roth following his third career PMRA victory. “The car is responding a lot better thanks to the work from the crew Dave Bankes, Larry Summerfield, Kyle McNeil, Ron Muir, Willy Kerr and Ashley Roth, and the track was stellar.”

“I want to thank all my sponsors, Oak Grove Cheese, Shellbourne Fuels and Bright Water Service,” he continued.” I’m happy we could win for them. I also want to thank my parents, Jim and Kim Roth for supporting me.”

Jeff’s win also included round decisions over fellow Canadian racers Derek Hawker and Rob Atchison during which he ran consecutive elapsed times in the 6.0 secs range.

Boland, the PMRA points leader had been the odds on favourite to win the event after he set the pace with a 6.041, 238.03 mph in qualifying which was both low ET and top speed of the event driving his flamed Firebird.

Boland continues to lead the PMRA Championship Point Award Series with 1072 points, while Roth is close in second with 1056. Derek Hawker of Corbyville, Ontario is third with 995 points, while Jason Kalso of Clarkston, Michigan and Jack Grainy of Basom, New York are next, tied with 975 points.
