“Shakedown” Photo Extra
Norwalk’s Ohio’s rather infamous “Shakedown at the Summit” event went off (with a few hitches) last weekend at marquee Summit Raceway Park. DragRaceCanada’s Brennan Shortall was there and filed this photo extra which includes significant Canadian racer participation…
Once again Mother Nature came to play during the weekend bringing rain and temperatures around 6 degrees with cold winds and at one point – hail! The sun reappeared on Sunday to warm things up slightly. (EDITORS NOTE – A special thanks goes out to Kurt Johnson and team who did not rest at all this weekend! The air temps were cold, but the track was on point with many teams running their best runs of the season).

Edmonton’s Jim Bell collects the fame and the cheque as he wins the Pro Mod class at the 12th Annual Shakedown at the Summit. When asked if Jim would pose with the trophy for a photo, he was adamant that his team be in it as well – as they all won it. Classy. Congrats!

Mike Yedgarian of King City Ont qualified 5th in Pro Mod with his Twin Turbo 68 Firebird. He also ran in the Outlaw 10.5 class with his 69 Camaro.

The Shakedown Girls were present this year doing their thing and helped to keep everyone’s minds off the cold.

There was a good number of Canadians in the Top Sportsman field. Jeff Gabel made the trip from Stratford Ont with his awesome 73 Duster.

Luc Angers from Laval Que was the highest qualifying Canadian in the Top Sportsman class with his 2006 GTO. He qualified 2nd.

Always ready with a smile and a thumbs up is Carol McMillen, wife of Top Sportsman Driver Darryl McMillen.

In an exciting All Canadian Outlaw 10.5 final was Frank Pompilio in his awesome twin turbo 67 Mustang going against Tony Basso in his Supercharged 67 Chevy II. Pompilio would be victorious.

Tony Basso of Oakville Ont qualified last – but everyone knew he had what it takes to go some rounds in his super clean 67 Chevy II. He finished in the runner up spot.

Jim Bell from Edmonton Alberta may have starting the day out in 7th with his Proline built Twin Turbo 526, but he ends the day 1st overall!
