zMAX Canadian Photo Extra
A strong contingent of Canadian racers made their way down to Bruton Smith’s fabulous zMAX Dragway for the recent NHRA Dollar General 4 Wide Nationals. Here is a photo essay highlighting just some of Canada’s participants….

Defending NHRA Super Comp World Champion Al Kenny showed his winning ways again. For the Kingston Ontario based racer it was NHRA national event win #6 of his career.

London’s Paul Noakes had another very strong run – going to the semi-final round in TAFC before having a centre line foul violation.

A welcome new participant in NHRA Pro Mod was defending PMRA Champion Eric Latino and his talented “Team Green” Camaro group. Eric ran 5.972 secs to Q#7.

Cassie Simonton recorded the quickest run for the Canadian cars entered in TAFC — a near career best 5.558 secs while winning round #1 in Spiro Kontos’ machine.

Ontario-based Q32 circuit regular Jeff Moser tried his hand in the NHRA Top Dragster class at Concord. Jeff qualified 19th and won in round one.

Winnipeg’s Kenny Lang nearly reeled of a big win in Pro Mod — taking Al Billes’ Corvette to the final round where he lost a close decision to Troy Coughlin.

One of the cooler cars entered in Super Gas was Richard Grenier’s Mopar-powered Willys roadster from Quebec.

Quebec’s Daniel Mercier ran a best of 5.492 secs to qualify #14 in TAD before losing out in round #1.

Gianni Cantusci entered his familiar GT/HA ’00 Firebird in Super Stock but fell out of competition in round #2.

Mark Rogers drove the Ontario-based Kardiac Kids owned by Larry Dobbs car again – and ran a best of 5.715 secs to qualify 11th.
