Quebec’s Naperville Dragway hosts it’s 2018 NHRA National Open event….

Napierville Dragway’s calendar weekend (July 13-15th) featured a great mix of machines as numerous NHRA Lucas Oil class car competitors were showcased as well as provincial and regional strengths in Pro Mod, Top Sportsman/Top Dragster and ET Brackets.

Within the featured NHRA Northeast Division National Open competition format — it was Stittsville Ontario’s Gianni Cantusci that shined brightest.  The veteran Eastern Canadian Super Stock class racer had a pretty remarkable weekend driving his reliable and familiar GT/LA classed 2000 Firebird.

Eastern Ontario’s Gianni Cantusci scored a nice “double header” victory during NHRA’s National Open held at Naperville PQ

Cantsuci in fact won both days of competition in the Stock/Super Stock class combo – defeating 30+ cars entered for each event.  On Saturday Gianni ran a final round 10.201 secs at 129.05 mph to defeat the GT/FA Camaro raced by Joe Santangelo (Marlborough CT).  Then on Sunday, he duplicated that feat when he ran a final round 10.268 secs to beat Tom Brown’s E/SA Camaro (Pointe Claire QC).

The NHRA National Open race also featured competition within a index Combo eliminator that melded together entries in Super Comp – Super Gas and Super Street class categories.

Marc Andre Nadeau was the Saturday event winner in his ’68 Camaro Super Gasser beating New York’s Matt Viscione’s 8.90 dragster in the final round. Then on Sunday the final featured a battle of two Nova Scotia based drivers – Jason MacNeal versus Faber Mackie with MacNeal’s Super Comp car prevailing (8.943 secs to a breakout 10.899 secs).

Marc Andre Nadeau won Saturday’s NHRA Combo Index event in his Camaro.

The event also featured regional 1/8th racing in Pro Mod and TD/TS with Luc Trepanier taking the Pro Mod title driving his supercharged ex Bruce Boland Firebird and Fred Angers ultimately prevailed with his consistent Top Dragster car.

Quebec UDRA circuit regular Luc Trepanier scored during the weekend event’s Pro Mod feature race.

ET Bracket class racing highlights included wins by Marco Laframboise and Gilles Trembley (both in Super Pro) and Mike Ingram and Martin Lassiserage (Semi-Pro) on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
