For the first time — Quebec’s Luskville Dragway — hosts NHRA Canadian Series feature….
Season races #3 and #4 for the now expanded John Scotti Canadian Championship Series went down at Ottawa-area Luskville Dragway last weekend.
The event was graced by some great weather as attending racers benefitted from some numerous facility upgrades completed by new track owners and dedicated drag racers Fred & Frank Angers, as well as Derek Malcolm who has remained on to help manage the facility.
The race weekend (competed within a 1/8th mile format), did showcase some NHRA Sportsman level class car competition — with the Stock/Super Stock Combo category featuring the best attendance.
On Saturday it was Ontario class heavyweight Brian Clayton (from Port Perry) who once again made a trip to victory lane in his SS/JA ’90 Camaro. Clayton handled a 22-car field that day when he out ran he F/SSC ’16 Cobra Jet Mustang raced by Robert Patry (Oka PQ) in the final. Brian ran a spot on 6.290 secs ET (6.29 dial in) to complete the score.

Brian Clayton (from Port Perry) continued his winning ways — winning the Stock/SS Combo held on Saturday.
Sunday’s Stock/Super Stock combo title went to popular “forever young” drive Bob Park — from Dundas ON. Racing his ’82 model Camaro GT/GA, Bob defeated Ryan Boniferro’s Niagara Falls-based SS/FA ’69 Barracuda in that final. Bob ran a winning 6.232 secs (6.20 dial in) while Ryan had a red-light foul. 20 cars were entered in Stock/SS that day.

Bob Park – a Canadian Drag Racing Hall of Fame member – was a popular winner for Luskville Dragway last weekend. He (far lane) defeated Ryan Boniferro in the Stock/SS Combo concluding race.
The event also included two Top Sportsman/Top Dragster Combo eliminators – one held each day. Those wins went to two Quebec-based racers, Phil Harvey (Sunday) and Serge Marireau (Saturday).
Harvey beat Pam Rennie (Kanata ON) in his final round and Marireau, the event low qualifier, topped Michel Bastein’s T/S Dodge for his victory.
NHRA index class racing this weekend included winners Brandon Barker (Super Comp), Eric Stroud (Super Gas) and Micheal Reynolds (Super Street) on Saturday.
Wins also went to Julia Malcolm (Junior Dragster) and Larry Lepine Jr. (Motorcycle) that day.
On Sunday Index titles went to Frank Angers (Super Comp), Charlie Kenopic (Super Gas) and Jamie Chaud (Super Street). Parker Seguin (from North Bay ON) scored in Junior Dragster and Larry Lepine won again for Motorcycle.
Event notables also included, long distance attendance efforts by T/D racer Glenn Maclean and his grandson Carter Maclean who came in from Hunter River PEI and for Bill Fletcher (from Hasket TX) who gathering in the Engineered Racing Services “Best Engineered Award” for his Fletch Racing 2018 Cobra Jet Stocker.
Rick Stroud, from Douglas Ontario, was named Performance Cellar “Best Appearing” for his Nexgen-sponsored Top Dragster.
