At long last (!) the “horses are on the track” within Canadian drag racing!….

The season opening weekend for Castrol Raceway’s thriving Top Eliminator club included a very deserving victory for a veteran participant. For season race #2 (held June 13th) it was Dave Senio from Rollyview (just outside of Edmonton) winning his first race ever in the 10 years that he has been racing in Top Eliminator. He was mobbed by his fellow competitors (photo above) to help celebrate that breakthrough moment.
Top Eliminator Club action at Castrol Raceway produced multiple other winners over the past two weekends — including young lady racer Jenna Michaud (top photo) who won June 12th’s program – and 2nd generation racer Mike Krozser took the title on June 19th. Cody Scheu was the winner last Sunday with his dragster (bottom photo). Each and every Top Eliminator Club race this season so far has attracted close to 40 cars.
Eastern Canada’s longevity rich Can-Am Stock/Super Stock racers managed to get their first race of the season done last weekend at Ontario’s St. Thomas Dragway. 30 cars made qualifying runs and in the end it was wily veteran driver Jim Lindsey emerging the winner in his truly classic “Peppermill” 1960 Ford Falcon. Running a 6-cylinder motor – Lindsey held off Wally Clark’s new look GT Pontiac in the final round.
A lot of eyes and ears are on Mission Raceway in high anticipation for their first feature race in a long time — the “Doorwarz 2021″ event – which is scheduled for July 2-4th. Questions persist regarding spectators allowed — the track remains under the outdoor sports umbrella as far as provincial mandates go and thus must follow all BC Provincial Reopening Plan guidelines. Currently that Phase 2 rating would limit it to no more than 50 spectators for the race – however fingers are crossed and there is room for optimism that the Phase 3 Reopening Plan coming out next week (July 1) — could change spectators allowed. Area fans are advised to monitor Mission Raceway’s official FB page (Link HERE) for potential very last minute ticket opportunities!
