Lesenko & Worsham Align for Next Chapter
Canada’s Todd Lesenko will open the next chapter for his Funny Car racing career when qualifying begins for the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals at Pomona next February…..
Lesenko, from Edmonton, has announced a renewed racing alliance with California-based Worsham Racing which rekindles that association. Todd had previously raced on a limited basis during the 2011 NHRA Full Throttle season with Chuck Worsham after his graduation from the Nostalgia Funny Car ranks.
Initial plans for 2013 will see Todd driving a car equipped with a Dodge Charger body which is cladding a very fast and competitive chassis built at Worsham Racing by New Zealand native Grant Downing.
Due to his thriving business in Canada (Fountain Tire chain of stores) Todd revealed that he will run a more compact NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing season schedule with 10-12 event outings currently on the radar.
The just past 2012 NHRA Full Throttle season marked Todd’s first full season on the NHRA tour and came as driver of the Jim Dunn Racing Funny Car.
“Some changes and the growth of my business in Canada will demand more of my attention,” Todd revealed. “Because of that I was unable to make a full season commitment to Jim Dunn Racing. I really enjoyed my time last season with that race team. They taught me a lot about racing and the sport, and they treated me like part of their family. But sometimes in life you have to take a step back before you can move forward – and that is about where I am right now.”
Todd confirmed that his 2013 season was be a transition year of sorts. His intention is to showcase and introduce some new sponsors to the sport while at the same time building momentum towards a return to a full NHRA Mellow Yello season schedule – likely in 2014.
“I’m a businessman that loves to drive race cars,” he added. “I am going to take things forward with some new partners and ideas which I think will help expand the overall popularity for NHRA Mellow Yellow drag racing and also provide some added excitement for Canadian racing fans.”
More particulars are forthcoming. Fans can check out Todd’s racing history as well as keep abreast of updates at his official website: www.NitroFCCanada.com
