10th Jegs Northern Sportsnationals Results
Local racer TJ Coughlin Jr. scored a huge national event win during the 10th annual JEGS Northern SPORTSnationals NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event held at Ohio’s fabled National Trail Raceway…..
TJ was pulling double duty this weekend in the Super Comp and Super Gas classes and made his way through the field and ended up in the Super Gas winners circle driving his Corvette at his family’s sponsored event.
In addition to supporting multiple professional series, events, and racers, JEGS Mail Order has been supplying high performance parts to racing professionals and enthusiasts across the county and around the globe for over 52 years. Coughlin’s winning pass clocked in at 9.910 seconds at 164.31 mph to defeat Doug Kroft, Wabash, Ind. With this victory he joins his father Troy and uncles John, Mike, and Jeg Jr. for a combined 12 national event wins at National Trail Raceway, the team’s longtime home track.
Dan Fletcher of Churchville, N.Y., picked up his 90th National Event victory with his 11.055 second, 97.71 mph pass in Super Stock. Rick Brown, Lebanon, Ohio, drove his 2000 Chevy S10 to the Comp Eliminator win with a 8.245 second, 162.78 mph lap over the No.1 qualifier Todd Frantz, Louisville, Ky. On the other end of the qualifying ladder, Phillip Oakley from Philpot, Ky., won the Top Dragster category as an alternate from the 33rd qualifying position, working his way through the field and posted a winning lap of 6.609 seconds at 206.80 mph.
Edmond Richardson of Greenbriar, Tenn., helped his cause this weekend in becoming Super Comp National Champion with his victory over Garry Fleenor, Port Clinton, Ohio, with a 8.938 second, 173.03 mph pass. Bob Mandell Jr. of Culleoka, Tenn., took his beautiful ’55 Bel Air to a Top Sportsman win clocking in at 6.738 seconds at 187.76 mph.
Making their way back into the JEGS Northern SPORTSnationals winners circle were repeat winners Michael Beard, Columbus, Ohio in Stock and Bo Butner of Floyds Knobs, Ind., in Super Street. With this win, Butner has now claimed event wins in the Comp, Super Stock, Stock, and Super Street classes.
