2013 “Windsor Weekend” Event Shifts
“Windsor Weekend” one of Canada’s largest Community based Drag racing events, has been moved from its original slot in September to the Civic Holiday Weekend ( August 2-4) within Grand Bend Motorplex’s 2013 schedule…..
The event routinely draws in excess of 300 competitors, many with beautiful rides we only see once a year, plus thousands of supporters who come for the weekend.
“There have been some factors that have affected WW the last few years, and the people of Windsor/Essex have still come and given great support to this event year after year” says Paul Spriet COO of GBM. “ In discussions with Chuck Fram and his committee, we all felt we owed it to them to try and provide a weekend that offered a better opportunity, the benefits of the Grand Bend area in its prime, and since the event is so large the benefit of an extra/raindate day (Monday) if needed.”
The event includes race classes for every level of competitor from Trophy classes, to Bracket classes broken down by ET, to the highlight of the weekend – the Heads Up program, where the baddest rides battle it out to claim the crown of quickest car in Windsor/Essex. The Saturday Night of Fire features the Heads up program, plus additional show cars and a great Fireworks show. The event is unique in the fact, that competition in the various classes is limited to those from the Windsor/Essex County region. There are also two programs (Extreme 32 & Junior Dragster) open to racers from anywhere. The Junior program features the largest payout/purse program of the year, and with last year’s rainout the money raised for the Junior program is being used to provide free entry to all Junior racers at this year’s event.
